Easter
Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!
On this Easter Day, we celebrate the triumph of love over fear, of life over death, and of light over darkness. We see the power of self-sacrifice to bring life. This power manifests itself in daily realities of love – in childbirth, in the workplace, in the community – in every place where effort and toil are put forth to make the world better and pain gives birth to life. The reality of sacrificial birth is true physically, psychologically, and spiritually. The world into which Jesus came, and the world in which we live, is an expression of the Spirit and the Goodness of God, and so it is a world in which good triumphs over evil, and life overcomes death. Love inspires the laying down of one’s life in order that it may be taken up again. And Jesus draws all things to Himself.
The Cross that Jesus accepted as an instrument of torture and a symbol of bitter defeat has been transformed into a tree of life. No bondage can hold those who are inspired by His power, and no defeat cannot be transformed into victory for those who are united in Him.
The message of Easter is that even death and sin become transformed to serve the Good. Jesus’s death, which was the most tragic and horrific event of the cosmos, is in fact the tremendous occasion of the glory of life.
If we allow ourselves to answer the call of that Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, then we share in His power to bring new life through self-sacrifice. “Behold,” He says, “I make all things new.” In Him is life, and if we share in a death like His, we can triumph in the Kingdom of His Life.
Yours in Christ,
