Worship Ministries

  • Please contact the parish office (513-521-7274) for funeral arrangements. The Church of the Assumption runs St. Mary's Cemetery just one block east of the parish. Cemetery plots are still available.

Bereavement Ministry members work with families who have recently lost a loved one in order to discuss and help plan, with them, the funeral liturgy. When there is a death, funeral arrangements are made by the family with the funeral home. Once the date and time of the funeral liturgy are confirmed with the Church, Bereavement ministry is notified and makes contact with the family to meet and talk about the Mass.

Bereavement Ministers can function as planners, greeters, lectors, and/or Eucharistic ministers. The Liturgy planners are the ones who offer to meet with the family to plan the liturgy and then follow through with planning as necessary. They also are present for the Mass and help by coordinating the family members and volunteers before and during the Mass and working with the presider and music director to make sure all goes well. New planners are trained by experienced Bereavement ministers and are not assigned to a bereaved family until they feel ready. Planning materials and resources are supplied and explained well in advance. The guidelines of the General Instruction and the Roman Missal are followed, as well as archdiocesan and parish guidelines to ensure a beautiful and prayerful funeral liturgy.

Greeters act as ushers through the Funeral Mass, working with the funeral directors as needed and being present for those gathered. Lectors and Eucharistic ministers are called upon as needed for service at funeral liturgies.

    Bereavement planners presently available are:

  • The choir of the Church of the Assumption supports the prayer and worship of our Parish community. Music is integral to liturgy, and liturgy done well includes communal sung prayer of all who assemble in worship. The choir, guided by the Church document Sing To The Lord, provides an atmosphere conducive to worship and prayer, and fosters the art of musical liturgy. The primary role of the choir is to lead the assembly in sung prayer and to lead each member of the assembly to prayer through music. Our choir takes this charge very seriously while enjoying the camaraderie and friendship that develops along the way.

Scot Buzza is a choral conductor who was previously the music director for Bellarmine Chapel parish for 13 years. • The Assumption Prayer group believes that every Christian is called to pray for one another, the Church, and the World. We believe that God answers prayer and that prayer changes us. We believe that God's healing power is present when we come together in the name of Jesus.

During the prayer meeting we gather in Christian fellowship to praise God and to freely worship Him in spirit and in truth through His Word in scripture and with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We seek and find great comfort in fellowship and sharing of our lives with one another.
Prayer requests may be placed at any time in the locked prayer boxes located in church beneath the statues of the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph.

We meet the first and third Monday at 12:30-2:00 pm in the Brides room of the church. (During the Summer we meet in members homes). Everyone is welcome. The meeting normally lasts about 90 minutes.

Please come and join us and find the joy and love that has blessed our gatherings for the past 35 years. If interested in joining us or to check to see if there's a meeting this week, contact Ted Kramer at the below information.

  • Our Mission is to renew the call for individual Catholics to unite and restore respect for and the legal protection of every human life from conception to natural death. We strive to do this by making our parish the center of life, a place where our parishioners understand the issues and the importance of those who are most vulnerable: the unborn, the elderly, the seriously ill and dying, and the handicapped.

Our ministry has a 4 prong direction.

    • We distribute educational material to neighboring Churches in our area in an effort to stimulate Pro-Life thought and activity in the community outside our parish.

    • We strive to educate our Parish concerning legislation which may be upcoming that will impact various life issues.

    • We encourage as many parishioners as possible to help in our efforts to defend life in and outside our parish community. For example: we participate in the annual Respect Life Flower Sale with all profits going directly to Cincinnati Right to Life; We hold a Baby Shower for slightly used and new baby clothing, toys, diapers etc. to be given to the Pregnancy Care Center in North College Hill, and each year Pregnancy Center West comes to our Parish School to speak to our 6th through 8th graders on age appropriate topics relative to respect life issues.

    • We are constantly searching for new ideas to help spread the pro life message and for new volunteers to help us spread that message.

Meetings are held once a month on the First Monday. If a holiday falls on that particular Monday, the meeting is held the following Monday. We meet in the Parish Meeting Room located in the school at 7:00 PM and meetings last only one hour. If you would like to become involved, simply attend our next meeting-no strings attached.

Social Ministries

  • We are committed Catholic men of Assumption, who recognize our need for God's help. We gather in Christ's presence in an atmosphere of trust, equality and anonymity to share personal feelings and experiences. We unconditionally accept each other and prayerfully support one another.

This ministry is comprised of men who come together in fellowship to discuss a particular lesson or scripture and talk about what it means in our lives. Some of the presenters that we watch are Fr. Mike Schmitz, Kenny Burchard, and Bishop Fulton Sheen. We also support social action activities for our members, families, and the parish as appropriate.

    Meeting Ground Rules:
The meetings last between 60 and 90 minutes (and people can leave when they need to). At the start of the meeting, we set aside some time for socializing and refreshments. Our meetings are flexible and informal. We encourage feedback and suggestions. Above all, we agree to keep our meeting discussions confidential.

  • Boy Scouts of America has been a part of the United States culture since Congress chartered it in 1910. Dan Beard Council was one of the first Councils in the country. It was named for one of the three program founders who grew up in Covington, Kentucky. Troop 27 was chartered in 1950 and has a long tradition of serving Mount Healthy and Church of the Assumption. We accept boys who are 11 to 17 years old. We don't insist that they be Roman Catholic, just that they believe in God and attend regular religious services as required by the Scout program.

We meet every week and do activities such as camping, hiking, or a service project at least once a month. Each summer we go on a week-long camping trip.

Our purpose is to instill young men with the qualities of leadership, self-reliance, and citizenship while still having fun!

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

  • Mission: To Receive and Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ for current and future parishioners.

The Evangelization Team formed in May of 2013.  They met, explored and brain stormed potential activities to sponsor to further Evangelization at Assumption; they studied the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (NCCB) evangelization plan “Go and Make Disciples: A National Plan and Strategy for Catholic Evangelization in the United States”.

    They concluded the following goals:

    • Call each parishioner by name to a specific prayer role so each person feels needed and can train themselves in Evangelization and be more comfortable in proclaiming the Gospel, e.g. pray for Priests.

    • Invite outside Evangelization oriented speakers to church events, e.g. Soup Supper.

    • Place the Evangelization Prayer in the bulletin and Misselettes.

    • We need to provide education on existing Evangelization and Church information, history, sacraments, etc. in digital form such as apps and modern media (Facebook) to renew/develop faith among all parishioners, particularly the youth (Catholic Calendar, Instapray, 40 Day Spiritual Workout for Teens…..all are free!)

    • Foster a greater appreciation of cultural and ethnic spirituality; promote the idea that people can become affiliated with Assumption without becoming a member.  Obtain new residence info. and provide “welcome wagon”.

    • We need to reemphasize prayer and prayer events at ALL parish activities including Chili Fest, Festival, Santa Breakfast and athletic events.

    • More accessibility of devotional readings; invite Louise Karas to promote Lighthouse CDs and implement in our parish.

    • Have the courage to look for and approach new members.  Sit with someone you don’t know at Mass and at Coffee & Donuts.

    • More use of educational information in our bulletins, “Did You Know?”, “Dear Padre”, “Why Do Catholics Do That”, columns.

    Accomplishments:

    • Our charter is to help ourselves and others “Receive and Proclaim the Gospel”

    • Initiated the Lighthouse Kiosk program to supply books, brochures and CDs to our parishioners and guests on spiritual topics.

    • Constructed a mobile base for the Lighthouse Kiosk so it could be easily moved to other locations to supplement other meetings and activities.

    • We are submitting “Apps for Evangelization” to the bulletin to use our smart phones and Catholic based applications to receive the Gospel.

    • We have encouraged opening prayers at our public events like our Summer Festival to welcome and share our faith.

    • We have encouraged a welcome to visitors at the start of all our homilies at mass.

    • We have published welcome cards with parish mass information that are used as handouts at public events and the Mt. Healthy Alliance Food Pantry.

  • The parish finance commission acts as an advisory board to the Pastor. The Pastor seeks their input and assistance based on their professional experience and personal knowledge of the Parish. While the Commission votes on some expenditures, they have no authority to issue declarations to the Pastor on financial matters. However, their input is sought on all significant financial and business matters that concern Church of the Assumption Parish.

The Finance Commission is responsible for the preparation of the annual budget. The budget preparation is done in cooperation with the parish business manager. The budget is presented to the Pastoral Council with recommended approval by Finance.

  • Pastoral Council is the primary advisory committee with whom the pastor and the administrative staff consult on matters of parish policy. The council is composed of nine members who are elected through the discernment process. The pastor is considered an ex-officio member of the council. Members of Pastoral Council serve three year terms but cannot serve more than two consecutive terms. The Pastoral Council year runs from June until May.

The purpose of the Council is to explore and study with the pastor, matters of a pastoral nature; this is those areas of life that touch the spiritual and faith development of the parish members. It also serves as a consultative body to the pastor by making evaluations and recommendations, and provides an effective vehicle for planning and communication within the parish. While Council makes sure planning moves forward, it neither assumes an expertise that is more appropriate to another parish group, nor involves itself in the administration of the parish.

Parish Council meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of each month in the school meeting room. All regularly scheduled meetings are open to the parish. Anyone wishing to bring an issue to the Council for consideration may do so by notifying the President of the topic to be discussed at least one week before the meeting and by requesting to be placed on the meeting agenda.
