Give your treasures a new home

Many of our booths run on donations. Spring cleaning is a great time to give new life to some of these items!

  • Cash, gift cards, and alcohol for the Basket Raffle and Bid-N-Buy booths; Return by the gift tag board in the St. Bartholomew Narthex.

  • New, slightly used, and retro items for the Bid-N-Buy booth; Return by the gift tag board in the St. Bartholomew Narthex, or contact Kathy Depperman.

Chair a booth or volunteer

Chairpeople are currently needed for the French Fry booth and Kids’ games. Volunteers are also needed for many of the booths. Contact Ken Radziwon to chair or volunteer.

Major raffle tickets

Registered parishioners of St. Bartholomew can pickup their tickets in the Narthex. Help us save on postage by grabbing your tickets!

If you’re not a registered parishioner at St. Bartholomew, you can pickup tickets at the Family of Parishes Office, or by contacting Ken Radziwon.

Earn booth proceeds for your ministry

In recent years, several OLODP ministries have volunteered to cover a booth for the entire weekend. These ministries receive the net proceeds from their booth! Contact Jerry Yox or Ken Radziwon if your ministry is interested.

Community & Fellowship

  • The Cub Scout program involves boys in grades 1 through 5 in a variety of activities – everything from folding the US flag to changing a tire to using good manners. Cub Scouts operates as part of the Boy Scouts of America and is chartered to the parish.

    [Jon Tobin]

  • The K of C is a Catholic, family, fraternal organization. Members of St. Bartholomew are part of K of C’s Madonna Council, which is based in Mt. Healthy and includes members from several parishes. Meetings are held at 8 PM on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at the council hall (7700 Seward).

The Ladies’ Auxiliary meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at various restaurants. They hold their own fundraisers and assist at council events. For additional information contact Jon Witt.

  • Held the last weekend of July, our festival is much more than a fundraiser. As our largest and most public event of the year, the festival presents us with an opportunity to interact with parishioners and non-parishioners in a fun, positive, safe atmosphere.

Whether a person’s skills are in baking, making people smile, sales, planning, using their muscles, or simply being reliable, everyone can be part of the fun! The fellowship that develops within the parish and between the parishioners and the public is deeply rewarding.

Liturgical Ministries

  • This team of individuals collects, mends, washes, irons, and organizes the various linens that are part of the Mass. Each person is responsible for cleaning one week’s worth of linen about once every two months.

    [Cheryl Mushaben]

  • Any Catholic in 4th grade or older (including adults) can be trained to assist the celebrant during Mass by carrying the cross, holding the book, bringing items to the altar, etc. In addition to providing training, we try to help new servers by pairing them with more experienced servers who help them “learn the ropes”.

When scheduling servers, we try to accommodate Mass time preferences and family schedules as best we can, with an eye toward having servers fulfill their role at least one weekend Mass per month. (Weekday Masses also need servers.)

  • The perfect ministry for those with an artistic eye! Art & Environment decorates the interior of our church for special liturgies, feast days, and liturgical seasons (Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter).

The beautiful flowers that grace our sanctuary (altar area) are made possible by the generous donations of our parishioners.

  • This ministry serves the family of deceased parishioners in planning the funeral liturgy. Trained ministers provide guidance in the selection of readings, songs, and petitions used at the Mass. The bereavement ministers also act as liaisons between the funeral director/funeral home, the parish, the priest, and the family. Volunteers work together to fulfill these responsibilities:

    • Funeral Planning and Follow-Up

    • Attend Funerals to Support Families or Fill a Liturgical Role

    [Alicia Bourbeau]

  • Proclaims the Word of God on a level understandable to young children.

    [Jennifer Schaber]

  • Members of this ministry visit homebound parishioners on Sundays to bring them the Eucharist. Ministers with patience and compassion are a wonderful blessing to our homebound parishioners!

If you would like to learn more about this ministry or would like to inform us of a homebound parishioner who would like to receive the Eucharist, please contact the Family of Parishes Office.

  • After training, these ministers are formally commissioned to distribute the precious Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At each of our weekend Masses we have a total of 12 individuals distributing Holy Communion. [Alicia Bourbeau]

  • You are welcome here!” That’s the message our Greeters send through their warm words and honest smiles to those who come to celebrate Mass with us. And at the end of Mass, Greeters are there again to send folks off with a smile on their faces and a bulletin in their hands.

Greeters can be any age, and you can greet as a individual, a couple, or even a family. If you’re a warm, friendly person who can serve at the same weekend Mass time regularly (and arrive 15 minutes early), this is the ministry for you! Most Greeters serve on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule. [Randi Hom]

  • Lectors play a critical role in the celebration of the Mass by proclaiming the Word of God through the Scripture readings that precede the Gospel reading at each Mass. In addition to being comfortable and clear in public speaking, it’s important for a Lector to prepare in advance and develop spiritually so that they are sharing the Holy Spirit in the Word of God, not just “reading aloud”. We provide training and a lector workbook to aid in lectors’ preparations.

Two lectors are assigned to each weekend Mass, and one to each weekday Mass. Lectors are asked to arrive 15 minutes early, and are typically scheduled for one (occasionally two) weekend Masses per month.

    [Alicia Bourbeau]

  • The music ministry provides uplifting, spirit-filled music with a goal of leading the congregation in praise and worship of the Lord and bringing them more fully into the celebration of the Liturgy. We have an adult choir, a contemporary choir, and cantors (by audition).

    [Milt Goedde]

  • Who remembers to turn on the lights and sound system? Who prepares the vessels used in the liturgy (cruets, chalices, ciboria, etc.)? Who makes sure we have enough wine and hosts? And who cleans everything up afterward? The Sacristan.

At each Mass, a trained sacristan arrives about 30 minutes early to be sure that everything is in place for a smooth, uninterrupted celebration. This important role is perfect for someone who has a deep love for the Mass but prefers to work behind-the-scenes.

  • Ushers keep things flowing smoothly for members of the congregation by:

    • Managing the offertory collection and presentation

    • Managing any unique seating needs for special groups, celebrations, or individuals

    • Directing the flow of the Communion Procession

    • Assisting anyone who might need aid

Each weekend Mass has an usher team that typically serves on a weekly basis.

    [Ken Radziwon]

Service & Outreach

  • On the first Sunday of each month, we hold regular collections for food, personal care items, and school supplies to help stock local pantries like Valley Interfaith and Mt. Healthy Food Alliance.

Your involvement truly makes a difference in the lives of our neighbors!

  • Would you be interested in being one of God’s Housekeepers? Our church is cleaned weekly by a group of dedicated volunteers in a spirit of fellowship. Everyone is welcome to join us; many hands make light work! Cleaning is typically done on Thursday mornings.

    [Marian Crary]

  • Illness, job loss, or other circumstances can render families unable to meet their monthly obligations. For many, a hand up is all that it takes to get back on their feet. Through our volunteers and parish donations, our society is able to provide food, clothing, living expenses, and agency referrals to more than 150 families per year. Some of these families are parish members; others are our neighbors who live within the assigned society boundaries.

    [Ken Radziwon]

  • Is the Lord calling you to be a Prayer Warrior? Many among our parish family and friends need you to pray for their daily needs (medical, physical, financial, spiritual…). Members devote time each day to raise up prayers on behalf of their fellow parishioners. This powerful ministry reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles.

    [Mary Jasany]

  • This group promotes appreciation for life at every stage – from conception to natural death – by…

    • providing pro-life literature from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (also found in the Parish Library’s Respect Life binder)

    • promoting pro-life activities

    • gathering items and funds for Old St. Mary’s Pregnancy Center in Over-the-Rhine through our “Baby Jesus Shower”, “Diaper Drive”, and “Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day Flower Sales”.

In addition, we promote Project Rachel (a healing ministry for those who have been affected by or participated in an abortion), and our bulletin board includes information about free, confidential counseling services and support provided by Catholic Charities for those facing unplanned pregnancies.

    [Rose Bird]

  • On the 3rd Wednesday of each month (Jan-Oct), volunteers meet in the church parking lot at 7:30 PM to carpool downtown to Shelterhouse. Bearing various snack items, magazines, and devotional items (all donated by parishioners), the volunteers meet and greet about 300 homeless men and women for their evening snack before returning to the church around 9:15 PM.

    [Mary Mulkey]

  • Located in Over-the-Rhine, Tender Mercies provides housing and related services to homeless persons with histories of emotional and/or metnal disabilities. There are no kitchen facilities at Tender Mercies, so residents are dependent on outside volunteers for all meals. Our parish has committed to preparing dinner for 35-40 residents on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Participation in this program allows for a great deal of flexibility, ranging from occasionally preparing one item of the meal to preparing and/or serving the entire meal for a given month.

    [Ann Sloan, Bill Fessler]

Parish Committees

  • We are blessed with a 17-acre campus and multiple facilities for parish ministries and events! The Building and Grounds Team assists the Business Manager and Finance Council by:

    • Reviewing the effectiveness and costs of routine maintenance. (Where possible, volunteers handle projects to reduce costs and enhance camaraderie among parishioners.)

    • Reviewing, prioritizing, and sometimes supervising repairs, alterations, and improvements.

    • Preparing a 10-year prioritized forecast of major repairs and improvements; this is a key element in the parish’s long-range planning

    [Roy Bauer]

  • Our Finance Council meets regularly to offer input and guidance to the Pastor and Director of Administration on the financial operations of the parish. Did you know…?

    • St. Bartholomew supports families who choose Catholic school education by providing significant tuition assistance (through our budget and individually-funded programs) to parish families at John Paul II Catholic School.

    • Donations to St. Bartholomew can be made safely and easily through our Online Giving program.

    • Through The Bartholomew Society, individuals can arrange for planned gifts to the parish – like donations of stock, including the parish in one’s will, etc.

Members include Tiffany Hanisch, Bart Kohler, Katie Siefker, Tom Kessinger, and Kathy Marks.

  • Representing the parish community, members of council serve as a consultative body to the Pastor by:

    • Actively seeking information from fellow parishioners to accurately represent the “voice” of the parish community.

    • Assisting the Pastor in determining priorities, promoting spiritual growth, and implementing decisions that affect the unity and mission of the parish.

    • Acting as a vehicle for dialogue and communication among the pastor, the parish staff, the various commissions and organizations, and the parish members.

    • Evaluating how various proposals from parish commissions or groups promote or do not promote the mission of our parish.

    • Working with other groups in the parish to recommend specific policies and programs.

Council consists of our Pastor, a permanent recording secretary (appointed by the Pastor), and 8 parishioners.

Current members include: Jerry Yox (Chair), Joe Arnold, Joy Niehaus, Joanne Hauser, Ken Radziwon, Ashley Evans, Jon Tobin, Colleen Wietmarschen, Charlie McDonald (Recording Secretary)
